“Puig’s journey to becoming luxury will not be easy,” said Xavier Brun, a portfolio manager at Trea Asset Management, who plans to buy the company’s shares. “Although some of its more exclusive brands compete with luxury houses, overall the more classic perfume range, like Carolina Herrera or Rabanne, is one step behind.” That said, the “element of luxury is what attracted us to the name,” he said. It began as a bottle of Royal English Leather commissioned by King George III after becoming enamoured with a pair of Creed scented gloves. The House of Creed is one of the world’s oldest, privately owned fragrance houses passed down from father to son for more than 250 years, spanning seven generations. As the only fragrance house to rely on an ancient infusion technique to capture the raw and rare materials of each perfume, Creed has created a legacy of unrivaled scents, both commissioned and worn by kings, queens and discerning Creed devotees throughout history. Based out of Paris, each scent is weighed, mixed, macerated and filtered all by hand in the highest tradition of the House's founder, James Creed. Today, sixth generation and master perfumer Olivier Creed and his son, Erwin Creed, carry on the craft from their Parisian laboratory continuing the art of Creed's perfume making—a timeless, yet modern take on history, bottled. Founded in London in 1760, The house of Creed is the only family-owned luxury fragrance dynasty that has served royal houses as well as the public for over 250 years.

Our Heritage
As a loyal Creed member, we'd like to offer you the opportunity to receive our second issue of the Creed Book - a deeper exploration into the legendary history behind The House of Creed. Creed offers an exclusive personalisation service across selected fragrances and leather accessories. When Henry senior died in 1949, James and a young Olivier Creed continued The House of Creed legacy ‘From Father to Son’ which continues to this day. Olivier is credited for transforming the business from just 1000 bottles a year to the luxury phenomenon it has become.
Mother's Day Gifts
In book one, Olivier muses ‘My grandmother helped me a lot and even gave me a mould to make the bottles, and my father told me if my passion was for fragrances, then I should go for it’. In 1902 a visiting card provided two separate addresses for Henry Creed both in France; Paris and Nice. The latter is situated just 25km from Grasse, which was considered the centre of the French fragrance industry at the time. It would have been common practice for tailors to scent hemlines and leather gloves with fragrance.
Still based at Paris, with a factory at Fontainebleau, Creed manufactures many of its own essences using a traditional technique – a process now abandoned by most as too costly but which sets the Creed fragrances apart from some of their modern counterparts. The high quality natural raw ingredients are still weighed out, mixed and macerated by hand. But the firm faces growing competition as it increasingly runs up against French luxury behemoths LVMH and Kering, both of which are tapping the high-margin, high-end fragrance market that Puig first entered with the acquisitions of Penhaligon’s and L’artisan Parfumeur in 2015. Last year, Kering reportedly paid €3.5 billion for one such brand called Creed fragrances as it builds its own beauty division under the direction of a former Estée Lauder executive. L’Oreal has also been in talks about potentially buying a minority stake in Omani luxury fragrance company Amouage, Bloomberg reported on Apr. 4.
The high-end luxury fragrance segment benefits from strong market dynamics fueling double-digit growth, high profitability, and significant revenue recurrence driving long-term resilience through the cycle. The beauty category is a natural extension of Kering’s luxury universe, and the Group is confident its expansion in this strategic segment will create lasting value for the Group and its Houses. Established in 1760 by James Henry Creed, the House of Creed is the largest global independent player in the high-end fragrance market. Creed possesses a distinct collection of timeless and sophisticated perfumes, including the iconic Aventus.
Creed started it's journey by supplying the English court with custom tailored clothing, scented leather gloves and commissioned fragrances. In 1781, James Creed the first ever Creed fragrance, Royal English Leather for King George the third and his court as did so that the King could rest his chin on his gloved hand and inhale the gloves fine aroma. From then on we fast froward through time to 1970 when Oliver Creed made the fragrance available to the public for the first time. Creed is renowned for one of its best sellers, Aventus, which is consistently positioned remarkably high in the luxury fragrances rankings in key markets globally. Praised for its rich heritage, timeless scents, and unisex versatility, Creed is widely recognized for manufacturing artisanal essences of unrivalled quality using a traditional technique and for crafting highly distinctive and sophisticated scents.
