In 1994, Susan and John Bissert opened the Yardley Ice House. They crafted gourmet water ice in their small store that offered original flavors made with the best ingredients. Other water ice stores in the area only served standard flavors that were typically manufactured elsewhere and bought in bulk. They wanted to create a place that the community would gather to enjoy delicious desserts and each other’s company. In addition to its wildly popular gourmet water ice, the Newtown Ice House will offer old-fashioned soft-serve custard and fat-free ice cream, gelatis, sundaes, shakes, malts, floats and blend-ins. So we’re going to bring our premium ice to Newtown and share it with the community,” said Jackie.

The Bisserts retired at the beginning of this year passing the reigns of the business over to their niece, Jackie, and her husband, Todd, who continue to improve and expand the business with new flavors. This past year they added six new favors including birthday cake, wildberry Sangria, apple pie, Blue Hawaii and Ecto-Cooler, inspired by Ghostbusters. As it happens, the couple’s season will truly kick off this Saturday, Mar 11, at noon, when their Yardley Ice House location reopens, which sits a mere 10 minutes from the upcoming outpost. The Yardley Ice House started as a family business and remains one today.

The popular restaurant hopes to open its doors in October. If approved, the new restaurant will be the establishment’s first Bucks County location.
